Join the National Call-In Day Against TPP
Despite immense, bipartisan opposition, the White House is more determined than ever to force a post-election, “lame-duck” vote on the TPP. That is the unique moment in the political calendar when representatives that are retiring or have been voted out of office are least accountable to their constituents.
That’s why some of our largest unions, environmental, public interest groups and the WA State Alliance for Retired Americans are calling for a National Call-In Day Against the TPP for Wednesday, September 14th.
Make no mistake: the TPP is NOT dead. On Friday, August 5, the Obama administration sent Congress the last official document required before TPP implementing legislation can go for a vote. Politco called this “the clearest indication yet that the White House is serious about getting Obama’s legacy trade deal — the biggest in U.S. history — passed by the end of the year.” A media report on Tuesday describes the White House’s “all-out push to win passage of the deal in the lame-duck session of Congress,” with the administration organizing 30 events over summer recess to build support in key congressional districts. Yet another article this week pointed out, “President Barack Obama couldn’t care less about Hillary Clinton’s position on the TPP as the White House moves full steam ahead.”
This means we need to unite with others nationwide to act now to #StopTPP – by making our voices a mighty roar heard in Congress. We must force every member of Congress to state his or her position on the TPP before the election.
To get this done, Wednesday, September 14 is the National TPP Call-in Day. We will join together to flood the Washington D.C. offices of all 435 members of the U.S. House of Representatives with calls opposing TPP. But this noisy wave of public accountability will only work if we get out the word!
We must keep anti-TPP pressure on Congress, and you can help by spreading the word to everyone you know about the September 14 anti-TPP day of action! Our easy-to-use call-in tool lets people just enter their zip code using the telephone keypad and be automatically connected with their member of Congress.
