WSARA Summer Celebration Forum
Current and future retirees are invited to our Summer Celebration Forum for the Anniversaries of Medicare and Social Security. It will be held on Wednesday, August 14th, 10 am to 3 pm, at the Laborer’s Local 242 Union Hall located 22323 Pacific Highway South, Des Moines, WA 98198.
Nationally, it has been a tradition for state chapters of the Alliance for Retired Americans to celebrate the anniversaries of Medicare (July 30th) and Social Security (August 14) every summer. This year WSARA is celebrating by inviting retirees to join our educational forum to discuss and learn more about these earned benefits.
Medicare and Social Security are at risk and the media doesn’t help by spreading false narratives. We hope to inform participants about the broad protections currently contained in Social Security Act programs, threats to those programs, and how they can be expanded by having the wealthy contribute more. We plan to do some “myth-busting” along the way.
And, what does ‘Medicare for All’ really mean? There’s a reason health care is the top issue for Americans and it is even more critical for seniors. Our celebration will include learning about ways to both protect our current benefits and efforts to improve and expand these vital programs with Marilyn Watkins, Economic Opportunity Institute Policy Director and others.
Please RSVP thru Eventbrite at BIT.LY/2INA9Ys or call 206-890-1009. A boxed lunch and birthday cake are included with each free ticket.
